From 1990 until 2001, Paivi spent ten years as a volunteer to help Holocaust victims and the elderly in Jerusalem. Bill and Paivi met in the summer of 2001 while Bill was doing graduate research at the Christian Embassy. In August of 2003 they brought their families and some friends to Israel and showed them the excitement of the land and its people. Then, on August 17, they were married along the Sea of Galilee.
